Experts Educate Samui Staff



Local hotel staff are on the lookout for box jellyfish and sting victims after a series of awareness information sessions arranged by the Thailand Hotels Association (THA) Koh Samui chapter were held on the island.


Experienced SCUBA diving instructor and local resident Camille Lemmens organised the sessions where 40 Koh Samui hotel staff attended several presentations held in local resorts. Presenters included Camille plus Dr Lakkana Thaikreua and Dr Hataya Kanjanasombut who lead a team of Thai officials assigned with implementing a box jellyfish awareness system throughout the country.

Organized in the wake of the tragic death of a 5 year old French boy on Koh Phangan in late-August, these sessions held 21st October will be followed by others in November as the Koh Samui community look at taking some responsibility for their box jellyfish situation and making positive, lasting steps in improving safety and awareness.
